The article is part of the extensive publication “After the Coal“, with which the Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation outlines alternatives for a structural change in Lusatia. In their article, the authors describe the structural and industrial policy alternatives for Lusatia following the phase-out of lignite. To this end, they first analyze the current significance of lignite and introduce the most important actors in the process and their positions. Afterwards, the employment effects of a lignite phase out are outlined in order to present a vision for the future and development strategies.
The study was received in numerous media throughout Germany.
