Short study on the structural alternatives for Lusatia after Germany´s coal and lignite phase-out

Project Background

For a comprehensive publication of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation on the alternatives for structural change in Lusatia, Arepo provided an analysis of the structural and industrial policy alternatives. The study should provide a basis for overcoming the problems which are likely to accrue to the current LEAG emplyees and to Lusatia as a whole, as a result of an ambitious exit from lignite.

Type and scope of services

For this purpose, Arepo first carried out an analysis of the current significance of lignite. In the second step, a set of possible starting points and models for an active structural policy emerged, and in a third step, a participatory process on site was to prioritize and fine-tune the elements of the construction kit. The results were presented by Arepo during a press conference.

The study was received in numerous media throughout Germany.
