The REI Program helps address system-wide barriers to the integration of higher shares of intermittent renewable energy generation into the grid and take advantage of the opportunities emerging as part of the clean energy transition. Along with the Accelerating Coal Transition Program, CIF REI has been recognized as critical by the G7, which in June 2021 announced that member countries will be providing up to $500 million in new funding for the initiative.
