Central Project Evaluation of the Project Improvement of Energy Efficiency in the Water Sector, Jordan

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Arepo was commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) with the central project evaluation of the project “Increasing energy efficiency in water supply by optimising operation and maintenance“. The overall project objective is to improve energy management in the Jordanian water sector. The focus is on the problem of increasing demand for water and wastewater services in the country, which further increases the already high energy consumption of the sector. In the long term, rising energy costs can pose a threat to the economic situation of water utilities and thus to the supply of the population. The evaluation is an ex-post evaluation that will take place between June 2021 and April 2022. The primary objective of the central project evaluation is to monitor the project in terms of its design, its impact, and the quality of its implementation.

TYPE AND SCOPE OF SERVICES

Arepo evaluated the project on behalf of the GIZ. A significant part of this evaluation involved on-site research which was conducted in November 2021. The project evaluation consists of a detailed analysis according to the OECD-DAC criteria including an inception and a final report.
