Mid-Term Evaluation of the IKI Project “Enabling and Scaling up Market Adoption of Nature-related Financial Disclosures”

BACKGROUND

The IKI Secretariat at Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH has commissioned Arepo to conduct a mid-term evaluation (MTE) evaluation of the IKI project on the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). The TNFD was established to provide companies and financial institutions with a market-led, science-based framework for identifying, assessing, managing and disclosing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The aim of the MTE is to assess the project’s implementation status, progress towards its objectives, emerging results, challenges, good practices and lessons learned. As a formative evaluation conducted at the mid-point of implementation, the MTE also supports reflection on the project approach and enables adjustments where necessary. The evaluation is carried out to inform BMUKN and ZUG’s assessment of the project’s success to date and to support adaptive management at project and programme levels.

TASKS

Arepo is responsible for the overall management of the Mid-Term Evaluation (MTE). The goal of the MTE is to ensure accountability, foster learning and support adaptive management by taking stock of project progress, assessing the achievement of results, and identifying success factors, challenges and lessons learned. This includes analysing all project outputs, reviewing the project’s Theory of Change, assessing the interaction between global and country-level activities, and formulating recommendations for the second half of the project. The evaluation will follow a mixed-methods approach, using document analysis, stakeholder interviews, focus group discussions, surveys, internet research and, where relevant, independent observations as the main methods of data collection. While the global component will be assessed remotely, two case studies in China and Costa Rica will be examined in greater depth through remote missions, including stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions.
