Green H2 Decarbonization of industrial zone(s) in Morocco

A joint declaration of intent on the development of green hydrogen, known as Power-to-X, signed in 2020 by Morocco and Germany, is a strategic partnership aimed at promoting green hydrogen. On behalf of German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the project “Implementation of the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Program” (H2-Uppp) is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It has the objective that markets for green hydrogen technologies, especially in developing countries and emerging economies, are developed further through partnerships with business and public-private pilot projects. The aim of the H2-Uppp project is therefore also to support the development of market segments for green H2/PtX technologies in Morocco with active project scouting and close cooperation with the industry via public-private pilot projects (PPP).
The project objective is to investigate decarbonisation potentials in industrial zones in Morocco, particularly of local industries that consume a lot of stock energy, as well as, exploring joint market opportunities for the local and international private sector and investors regarding decarbonizing methods.
