Green H2 Decarbonization of industrial zone(s) in Morocco

PROJECT BACKGROUND

On behalf of German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the project “Implementation of the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Program” (H2-Uppp) is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It has the objective that markets for green hydrogen technologies, especially in developing countries and emerging economies, are developed further through partnerships with business and public-private pilot projects. The aim of the H2-Uppp project is therefore also to support the development of market segments for green H2/PtX technologies in Morocco with active project scouting and close cooperation with the industry via public-private pilot projects (PPP).

The project objective was to investigate decarbonisation potentials in industrial zones in Morocco, particularly of local industries that consume a lot of stock energy, as well as, exploring joint market opportunities for the local and international private sector and investors regarding decarbonizing methods.

TYPE AND SCOPE OF SERVICES PROVIDED

As a subcontractor of the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI), Arepo worked with the latter to analyse the best available technology solutions for decarbonizing local industrial areas and the market potential of Moroccan industrial production based on green hydrogen. In particular, market development opportunities were identified in the context of global developments.
