The international climate protection initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) has been promoting projects on climate mitigation, adaptation to climate change, preservation of carbon sinks and protection of biodiversity in developing and emerging countries since 2008. In total, the IKI now includes almost 730 individual projects and a funding volume of 3.9 billion euros (2008-2019), making it one of the most important climate finance mechanisms worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To receive funding from the IKI, institutions were able to submit program concepts for 13 different thematic priorities in 2019. These included, the digitization of transport, the sustainable orientation of international financial flows and the international protection of forests. A total of 240 million euros were available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The evaluator team of Arepo, together with different international experts, was responsible for the evaluation of the submitted project proposals on three different topics. The areas were 1) Digitization in urban transport, 2) Alternatives to fossil energy production and 3) Energy efficiency in industry and commerce. Arepo evaluated nine outlines in total. Furthermore, Arepo conducted background research on the project landscapes in the respective countries and on the consortiums.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
