Short Study for the German Green Party"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Background<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the brief study, Arepo analyzed and assessed the development of national greenhouse gas emissions for 2016. Overall, emissions remained more or less at the 2009 level for years. In order to reach the climate target of a reduction of greenhouse gases by 40 % by 2020, the total annual output would have had to fall significantly between 2015 and 2016, namely by approx. 30 million tons. Instead, emissions increased by at least 4 million tonnes of CO<sub>2<\/sub> equivalent in 2016. This means that between 2016 and 2020, the annual emissions would have to fall significantly faster. While from February 2016 emissions would have been steadily decreasing by about 30 million tonnes per year, it is now necessary for emissions to be reduced by 40 million tonnes each year over the four remaining years to 2020.
