Promoting the export of energy technology from the United States

Commissioned by Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA), this study examined export support mechanisms that promote the export of innovative environmental technologies from the United States. A special focus was placed on the activities of the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the agency’s support for feasibility studies on renewable energy projects, and a comparison of that support mechanism with renewables – Made in Germany, an export initiative of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The larger context was a study of Adelphi Consult on mechanisms that promote the export of innovative environmental technologies in a number of countries to derive recommendations for German policy makers. The selected model countries comprised the United States, Great Britain, and China as well as a comprehensive study concerning policy transfer.
